The South Korean National Red Cross (KNRC) said Sunday its central committee will vote for a new president Thursday.

The post was left vacant Saturday due to the resignation of Chang Choong-shik.

A source from KNRC said there is no strong contender to succeed the post. The new president will be able to begin his or her duty in mid-January after receiving approval from President Kim Dae-jung.

Until a new president is posted, the tasks will be handled by KNRC Vice President Chang Jeong-ja.
