U.S. Congressman Discusses N.Korea's Nukes in Pyongyang

A U.S. Congressman and outspoken critic of North Korea's human rights record wrapped up his four-day visit to Pyongyang on Tuesday.

Tom Lantos, a ranking Democrat of the International Relations Committee, stopped over in Beijing after his visit and told reporters that he met with high-ranking North Korean officials and had substantive and serious discussions on a range of issues, including North Korea’s nuclear program, human rights matters and the economy.

He did not give any details but said he would report to President Bush about the meeting when he returned to the United States.

Meanwhile, the North's official News Agency KCNA said Lantos held talks with Yang Hyong Sop, vice president of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly Presidium, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall. The KCNA said Lantos also met with North Korean Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun on Monday.
