Following the resignation of Korea National Red Cross chief Chang Choong-sik Saturday, the former chairman of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party has entered the spotlight as his probable successor.
Sources say the government is likely to recommend Suh to the top post of the KNRC, the organization which is responsible for conducting the inter-Korean Red Cross talks and the ever-important family reunions.
Suh said that while he has yet to receive an offer from the government, he will accept the post if the KNRC central committee votes him in unanimity. The Committee will convene its meeting on December 28th.
Suh's expertise in Red Cross affairs makes him an eligible candidate for the post. He started his career in the KNRC back in 1953, working his way up to secretary-general of the organization, a post he held from 1972 to 1981.
