Two Koreas to Discuss Preparations for Joint Events

Officials from civic groups of South and North Korea will meet in the North next week to discuss plans for joint inter-Korean events.

The South's Korea Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation said Friday that the two sides will hold working-level discussions at the Mount Geumgang resort for two days from next Thursday, shortly after forming a joint preparatory committee the day before.

The council, comprised of South Korean civic groups, said that the working-level talks will focus on drawing up plans for joint celebrations to mark the fifth anniversary of the June 2000 South-North Summit and the 60th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
