South Korea's governing Uri Party lawmaker Lim Chae-jung says North Korea is currently in the midst of removing words carved onto cliffsides and other areas praising former and incumbent leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il respectively.

Lim, who is also the chairman of the National Assembly's Unification and Foreign Ministry Committee, also said the size and depth of the carvings were posing a difficult challenge for the efforts to remove them.

He said he believed North Korean workers have begun to erase such letters painted in red.
