A U.S. firm will build Imax Movie House at Cheju World Cup Stadium

A U.S. tourist firm's Korean unit filed an application Friday with the city of Seoguipo, Cheju Province, to build an Imax movie house inside the World Cup soccer stadium of the tourist town.

Seoul GTEC Korea, a local subsidiary of the U.S. firm Global Travel and Entertainment Corp. (GTEC), plans to launch the construction from February next year and complete it in January 2002 at a total cost of 12 million US dollars.

The movie house will have a total floor space of 8,581 square meters on a land of 4,620 square meters. lt will have two basement floors and two levels. The structure will have a seating capacity of 500 with a screen 19 meters wide and 25 meters high.

GTEC also plans to build an aquarium with malls of restaurants, a movie house complex and a boating pool at the stadium's marginal space. The construction will begin from July, 2002, following the World Cup finals. Total investment will be around 25 million U.S. dollars.
