North Korea will likely become more dependent on humanitarian aid from outside the country in the long term, a U.N. official said Friday.

Richard Reagan, head of the Pyongyang office of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), pointed out North Korea has reduced its daily food rationing from 300 grams to 250 grams and that it has to make up for the shortage by purchasing from the global market.

Reagan also predicted a new "poor" class of people will emerge in urban areas where farming is impossible due to lack of arable land.
