South Korea has delivered one hundred-80 tons of fuel briquettes to North Korea.

A convoy of nine trucks returned to the South on Saturday afternoon after transporting the 50-thousand units of briquettes to the North's border city of Gaesong earlier in the day via a cross-border land route in the western section of the heavily fortified demilitarized zone.

The shipment was part of the 20-thousand tons of briquettes South Korea had promised to the North for use in the Gaesong Industrial Park during the winter season.

The shipment also included four hundred heaters.

South Korea had planned to deliver the briquettes and heaters late last year, but shipment was delayed at North Korea's request. The delivery came after the North requested it on Wednesday. The North did not give any reasons for the change in the delivery schedule.

Another one hundred-80 tons of briquettes are set to cross the border on Monday with the rest scheduled to be transported after the New Year holiday with one hundred-80 tons daily.
