A bipartisan group of six U.S. House members who met last month with Kim Young-nam, North Korea's parliamentary leader, has written him a letter urging the North to return to the six-party talks aimed at resolving its nuclear issue.
The group, led by Republican congressman Curt Weldon expressed its concerns in a letter to Kim sent on February 10.
The letter reportedly expressed that the lawmakers had asked U.S. President George W. Bush to refrain from making offensive remarks directed at the North. and voiced their deep disappointment over the communist regime's decision to indefinitely boycott the six-party talks.
The lawmakers added that the North's announcement that it was abandoning the talks had been particularly cutting as they had clearly been led to believe during their recent Pyongyang visit that the North would return to the six-party dialogue.
