Unification Minister Chung Dong-young says Chinese envoy Wang Jiarui has conveyed to North Korean leader Kim Jong-il Seoul's basic principle to resolve the North's nuclear crisis within the framework of six-way talks.
Chung made the remarks on Tuesday during an MBC radio program.
On the issue of fertilizer aid to the North, Chung said that Seoul's position is that it will continue humanitarian aid 'in principle'.
But the Minister was quick to add that it is also important to secure support and understanding from the South Korean public on the matter.
The Seoul government is reportedly carefully reviewing the North's recent request for 500,000 tons of fertilizer aid.
Chung also stressed the need for a "reciprocal" relationship on three major inter-Korean economic projects, including the development of an industrial complex in Gaesong, the promotion of overland tours to Mount Geumgang and the connection of inter-Korean railways and roads.
