South-North Economic Exchanges Not Affected by N.Korea's Declaration

Inter-Korean economic cooperation has not been affected by North Korea’s recent declaration it has nuclear weapons, a senior government official said Friday.
Director General of the Unification Ministry Kim Cheon-sik cited that cross-border railways and roads have been reconnected, adding that an average of 140 cars use the Gyeongui as well as Donghae Line every day.
Kim went on to say that some 750 South Korean tourists visit the North's Mt. Geumgang everyday, adding that a family hotel and golf courses are under construction in the scenic mountain resort. A South Korean movie is currently being filmed in the mountain, Kim added.
He also said Seoul has consistently sought to resolve the North’s nuclear issue, while at the same time promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation with the communist state.
Kim stressed that the government aims to consistently carry out its policy of seeking a peaceful resolution Pyongyang's nuclear impasse while promoting cooperation with the communist state.
