U.S. Senator: U.S. Will Spread Message of Freedom, Democracy to N. Korea

U.S. Senator John McCain says his country will spread a message of freedom and democracy to countries like North Korea through recently introduced legislation aimed at promoting democracy around the world.

In a news conference on the bipartisan bill, the Arizona Republican said Friday that he will seek to release a report on the human rights situation of countries that do not have diplomatic ties with the U.S., including North Korea.

Under the bipartisan bill introduced on Wednesday, an office on global democratic movements and transitions would be set up at the State Department. The bill also aims to establish so-called regional democracy hubs at various U.S. embassies to coordinate the promotion of democracy the world over.
