North Korea's pilot-phase industrial complex, jointly developed by South Korea near the North's border city of Gaesong, will likely have its electricity power supply turned on around Wednesday.

A South Korean government official said Saturday that power line installation works have been completed, with final checkups and testing underway.

The official said some 15,000 kilowatts of electricity will be supplied to the park, which is expected to be 5,000 kilowatts higher than the current electricity demand of the complex.

Meanwhile, several South Korean plants in the park are making preparations in anticipation of the power supply, although a few such as SJ Tech and Living Art have already begun production.

Most of the plants in the complex that began operations late last year are currently running at about 30 percent capacity, largely due to electricity shortages.
