Gaesong Products to be Labeled 'Made in Korea'

Products produced at the Gaesong industrial complex in North Korea will be labeled "Made in Korea," a trademark of South Korea, starting from Thursday.

The Korea Customs Service (KCS) said on Tuesday that it has established a new policy regarding products and transport vehicles moving into and out of the complex.

According to the new policy, manufacturers are allowed to use the English or Korean language label "Made in Korea" or "Made in Korea (Gaeseong)" for their products.

The customs authority will also set up a branch office at Dorasan Station near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to inspect Gaesong products while they are loaded for shipment.

According to government data, ever since South Korean firms officially started production in Gaesong in November of last year, the volume of cross-border transportation has increased 11-fold, and cargo 14-fold, compared with 2003.
