North Korea has denounced Japan's claim to the South Korean islet of Dokdo in a letter from its ambassador to the United Nations.
North Korea's state broadcaster Korean Central Television Station said Sunday that Japan's claim is tantamount to foreign aggression, likening it to an invasion of Korean territory.
The broadcaster was quoting a letter which North Korean Ambassador to the U.N Park Gil-yon sent to U.N Secretary General Kofi Annan on Monday.
In the letter, Park claimed that Japan has spent vast amounts of money on military facilities, asserting that such actions indicated that it was preparing for more aggressive forays.
Park also argued that Tokyo had singled out North Korea as the leading target in a contingency plan formed while relocating Japan's self-defense forces.
The ambassador went on to denounce the Japanese government for supposedly attempting to buy its way into the U.N Security Council, saying that the U.N is not a financial company but a political organization which was founded on the principles of independence and equality.
