WFP Says N. Korea's Food Situation to Worsen From June

The World Food Program (WFP) has forecast that North Korea’s food shortages will worsen in the latter half of this year.

The United Nations agency made the projection in its recent report on relief efforts in the North. It said food rations there fell early this year to just half of the daily amount recommended by the WFP.

The WFP, the main channel for food aid into the hermetic North, added that a further cut in rations is inevitable from June if no new promises of aid from the international community are made.

In January, WFP monitors said North Korea's state rations were cut from 300 grams of cereal a day to 250. The minimum daily ration of cereal as set by the agency is approximately 500 grams.
