A top North Korean official says history clearly proves that the easternmost islets of Dokdo are Korean territory.

Vice Chairman of the North's Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Yang Hyung-seop, made the remarks during a visit to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Asked about Japan's claims over the volcanic islets in the East Sea, Yang said Korea's ownership of Dokdo is not even worth mentioning again since it's proven by history and recognized by the world.

Meanwhile, on the stalled six-party nuclear discussions, Yang said the ball is in the U.S. court, reiterating that Washington should offer conditions for Pyongyang to return to the bargaining table.
