A North Korean broadcaster has forecast that the communist state will transform into a warm climate region in a few decades if changes in weather patterns continue at the present rate.
The state-run Korean Central TV aired a program Wednesday that introduced the climate changes in North Korea in recent years and how such changes had affected the North Korean people's lives and economy. The program was broadcast to mark World Meteorological Day.
According to the report, Pyongyang will see its weather become as warm as the South Korean resort island of Jeju in 30 to 50 years if the current greenhouse effect continues.
The broadcaster said that North Korea has been experiencing milder winters, with its average winter temperature rising nearly five degrees in the past 100 years.
