The United Nations World Food Program is concerned over the outbreak of bird flu in North Korea.

A WFP spokesman said Monday that anything affecting the food supply in North Korea worries them because of the serious food shortages there.

He added that some of the chickens affected by the recent outbreak were believed to be raised for export, and this probably reduced the North's foreign currency supply.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has told the North that it is ready to provide any technical aid to prevent a further spread of the disease.

North Korea confirmed Sunday its outbreak of deadly bird flu.
