The government announced Tuesday that it plans to take comprehensive measures to ensure smooth transportation and anti-disaster services during the Lunar New Year holidays.
According to the measures, about 5,700 police officers and 1,725 patrol cars and helicopters will be dispatched around the nation to direct traffic and facilitate transportation nationwide.
Police officers will be deployed along the Seoul-Pusan Expressway to keep "bus only" lanes open around-the-clock, and more will be on hand to crack down on traffic violators at about 7,500 trouble spots around the country.
In addition, emergency workers will be put on alert duty during the period, with about 880 fire stations and 1,000 ambulances ready for any possible accidents or disasters.
Central and local government officials will also conduct safety checks at passenger terminals at major ports, markets, department stores, theaters and other places where large crowds are likely to gather.
