A world animal health organization says North Korea officially acknowledged an outbreak of bird flu and has asked for international assistance.

At a press conference in Paris, the Secretary General of Office International des Epizooties (OIE) said he had been notified of North Korea's request through diplomatic channels.

The secretary general said North Korea had asked for international help in testing for bird flu, acknowledging an outbreak of bird flu at chicken farms.
