A fisherman and his boat were returned to the South Korean coast guard Monday afternoon.

Hwang Hong-ryun, 57, crossed the marine border dividing the two Koreas in the East Sea Wednesday in an apparent defection attempt.

He and his boat Hwangman-ho were brought to the port of Sokcho on South Korea's east coast.

Authorities will question Hwang on how he ended up in the North and his return.
