Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso departed for his country Saturday, finishing his four-day state visit to South Korea.
While here, Cardoso held a summit with President Kim Dae-jung in which the two leaders agreed to build a "special partnership" between the two countries in the 21st century.
They also reached an agreement that will extend the deadline for the construction of a Kia Motors factory in Brazil from 2001 to the end of 2003.
In particular, Cardoso, while visiting the truce village of Panmunjom, announced that his country would launch full-fledged normalization talks with North Korea.
He is the first Brazilian president to make a state visit to Seoul since the two nations formed diplomatic ties in 1959.
