A U-N official who recently visited North Korea says it will take months to wipe out bird flu there.

Speaking on Radio Free Asia Friday, the U-N Food and Agriculture Organization official said the North has apparently taken initial measures such as culling infected chickens, vaccination and isolating affected areas.

He called for Pyongyang to now focus on quarantine to prevent further infections, saying the North's own vaccine has proved effective against the disease.
