The two Koreas will kick off discussions Tuesday for the preparation of joint celebrations for the 5th anniversary of the June 2000 inter-Korean summit.

Some 35 South Korean civic group officials are expected to attend the three-day talks at North Korea's Mount Geumgang and discuss diverse festive events to take place throughout the year to promote reconciliation and unification.

On June 15th, 2000, then President Kim Dae-jung and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il met in a historic summit meeting and issued a joint declaration committing both sides to working toward reconciliation, cooperation and eventual unification.
