Japanese World Cup 2002 Preparatory Committee reportedly plans to scrap tickets printed "Korea-Japan World Cup 2002." According to reports, Japan instead plans to issue ticket forms with "World Cup 2002" inscribed.

The original contract between the co-hosts of the 2002 World Cup stipulate they use the official title "Korea-Japan World Cup 2002."

The Japanese World Cup Committee received severe complaints from South Korea recently, when the former decided to use the title "Japan-Korea World Cup" at their discretion. It also received warnings from FIFA that it should use the official title.

Japan claims that the international soccer body has conceded that Japan could get away with ignoring the official World Cup title when they are engaged in domestic PR campaign.
