Ryu Seung-min on Tuesday suffered a shocking second-round exit in the World Table Tennis Championships in Shanghai.

The surprising winner of the Olympic gold last year lost in seven sets to unheralded Danny Heister of the Netherlands.

Ryu also lost with his partner Lee Jeong-woo to China's Wang Liqin and Yan Sen in the men's doubles quarterfinals.
