Finance and Economy Minister Han Deok-soo has asked the Asian Development Bank to help North Korea.

In a keynote speech at the annual ADB board of governors meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, Han asked the bank to positively consider more assistance to the North.

He also urged member countries to help the North join the ADB.

The North's applications to join the ADB in 1997 and 2000 were rejected due to opposition from the United States, Japan and other leading members.
