IAEA Chief Warns NK over Nuclear Tests

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned North Korea not to conduct nuclear tests amid increasing reports of such a possibility.

Mohamed ElBaradei made the remarks on Friday at a press conference in New York, where a review of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)is taking place.

The U.N. nuclear watchdog chief said that the potential tests could trigger "disastrous political repercussions."

ElBaradei added that if Pyongyang tries to get what it wants from the international community by conducting the tests, it will only worsen the situation. He further stressed that North Korea must clearly understand that the world will not tolerate the birth of another nuclear-armed country.
