Passengers arriving at Inchon International Airport won't have to go through customs checks.
The Construction and Transportation Ministry and the Inchon International Airport Corporation have decided to lift the customs inspection for passengers of international airlines arriving at the airport. That airport is scheduled to open in late March.
However, high-tech equipment will be used to check passengers' carry-on baggage as they get off the planes. Officials expect that to cut the time needed for passengers to get through various check counters to around 40 minutes.
The ministry's decision is in line with policies at airports in other countries where passengers at the customs counters will only have to report what they have in their carry-on bags.
The Inchon International Airport Corporation is also trying to cut the entry process down to 30 minutes for all passengers by the time the 2002 World Cup finals take place.
