A North Korean cargo ship in March was found with "super counterfeit" US currency upon its arrival in Japan.

Japan's Sankei Shimbun on Wednesday said the captain of a North Korean cargo ship that arrived March 23rd in Sakai, Tottori Prefecture, was found with over seven thousand one-hundred dollar bills, ten of which were confirmed as fakes.

The captain claimed the money was to pay a Japanese business partner.

The report said the so-called Super-K counterfeit bills, which had circulated in the 1990s mostly in Southeast Asia, was produced by North Korea.
