A Chinese Communist Party official says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is apparently agonizing over possessing nuclear weapons or renouncing them.

Wang Jiarui, a senior member of the party's central committee, made the remarks Wednesday to visiting South Korean lawmakers.

He said that in his February visit to Pyongyang, he stressed to Kim that no country will tolerate the North's nuclear development.

Wang also blasted hard-line U-S policy for not considering the position of the North and making things more difficult.

He said both Pyongyang and Washington must make concessions to resolve the nuclear issue.
