Two North Korean patrol boats on Friday briefly entered South Korean waters in the West Sea, but retreated soon after receiving warning signals

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the two boats crossed the Northern Limit Line around 10:40 am.

The vessels claimed they were looking out for unauthorized foreign vessels in the area, mostly likely illegal Chinese fishing boats.

The intrusion was the first by North Korean vessels this year. Last year, they committed nine violations.
