North Korean freighters that will be used to transport fertilizer are arriving in Ulsan and other South Korean ports.
The Unification Ministry agreed to provide fertilizer aid to Pyongyang during a recent inter-Korean vice ministerial meeting. Starting today, North Korean vessels will arrive in South Korean ports to be loaded with fertilizer.
The North Korean cargo ship 'Baekdusan' was the first freighter to arrive at Ulsan Port. The ship 'Wonsan II' will enter Gunsan Port late tonight. A total of three freighters will have arrived by tomorrow.
This marks the first South Korean port call by the North after a northern freighter dropped anchor in South Korean ports in 1984 to transfer cement and other relief supplies to help flood victims in the South.
The Baekdusan, laden with fertilizer, will leave on May 25 for Nampo Port in North Korea.
