The remains of Lee Soo-hyon, a Korean student living in Japan who was crushed by a train last week while trying to save a drunken Japanese man from a mass transit train track in Tokyo, returned to his hometown Pusan Tuesday.

Lee's heroic actions and tragic death became front page news in both Korea and Japan, and a funeral service held for him in Tokyo was attended by Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori.

Meanwhile, President Kim Dae-jung on Tuesday ordered his cabinet to find suitable means to honor Lee Soo-hyon, including bestowing the status of a martyr.

In a related development, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori sent President Kim a message praising Lee's valiant death.

In the message, Mori wrote, "Lee's noble and brave act has greatly impressed the Japanese people.
