An inter-Korean gathering of college students wrapped up Tuesday with a joint statement.

Over five hundred collegians from the two Koreas gathered in the North's Mount Geumgang Monday and Tuesday to mark the fifth anniversary of the inter-Korean summit.

In the closing ceremony, students vowed efforts to implement the June 15 joint declaration signed at the 2000 summit, and keep Japan's history distortions and militarism revival in check.

Before closing, a musical concert featured songs on unification.

Meanwhile, Song Hyo-won, the head of South Korea's student activist group Hanchongryeon, said the event proved that students can spearhead inter-Korean ties.

Viting the North in her capacity as a student rather than as the group's head, she also pledged efforts to improve Hanchongryeon's image to garner more support from the South Korean public.
