Gov't Seeks Joint June Events with NK

The government is pushing for joint celebrations with North Korea to mark the 2000 inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang in June.

The Unification Ministry on Wednesday held consultations on the matter with the ruling Uri Party.

A Uri Party official said the government on Tuesday made the proposal to the North during working-level talks in the North's border city of Gaesong.

He said the state-level joint celebrations will be held separately from another event involving civic groups from the two sides.

The talks on preparations for the celebrations ended without agreement, but both sides on Friday will finetune details.

Last week, the North accepted the South's proposal to send a high-profile government delegation to the Pyongyang event next month.
