Buddhist Leader to Attend P'yang Events

The head of the nation's largest Buddhist group is seeking to visit North Korea next month to attend joint celebrations to mark the fifth anniversary of the inter-Korean summit.

The Venerable Beop Jang of the Chogye Order announced the plan in Washington during his talks with U.S. officials, including Joseph DeTrani, Washington’s envoy on North Korea.

The Chogye Order said the monk also wants to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and deliver the US position of no hostile intentions towards the North.
