The mayor of Incheon City, Ahn Sang-su, has left for Pyongyang aboard a North Korean Koryo Airline flight.

The North Korean flight arrived at Incheon International Airport Monday morning to pick up the mayor and his 42-member delegation of civic and business officials and reporters.

The Incheon city mayor is the first South Korean metropolitan head to visit the North upon an official invitation.

During his visit to Pyongyang and Nampo, Ahn is expected to consult with local officials on the scale of the North's team and cheering squad for the upcoming 16th Asian Athletics Championships to be held in Incheon.

The discussion agenda also includes the co-hosting of the 2014 Asian Games and exchanges between Incheon and Nampo in areas of culture, art, economy and sports.
