The number of tourists to North Korea’s Mount Geumgang resort topped one million as of Tuesday since the key inter-Korean project was launched nearly seven years ago.

The high-profile tourism program was launched by the South's Hyundai Asan in November, 1998.

The Unification Ministry said the opening of a cross-border land route on the East Coast was the main factor that contributed to the remarkable rise in the number of tourists.
