South Korean travelers to North Korea will be less troubled by the cross-border customs procedure.

All personal effects carried by visitors to the North's Mount Geumgang resort and the Gaesong Industrial Complex had been subject to an X-ray inspection. But the Korea Customs Service said it will omit or simplify the process for travelers and businesspeople from now on.

As to the reentry of golf clubs or luxury goods when returning to the South, people will be able to receive tax exemption upon submitting a simple notice to the authority.

The customs agency also said it will work with the Unification Ministry to further improve the customs system by allowing visitors with a electronic personal data card to enter North Korea without the requisite written application starting next year.
