North Korea is urging Washington to shift from its hardline stance to one of peaceful coexistence ahead of South Korea-U.S. summit talks.

According to the North's official Korean Central News Agency Friday, the Worker's Paper of North Korea said the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula was sparked by none other than the United States.

Claiming the situation had worsened under what it called Washington’s 'nuclear threat', the paper blamed the U.S. government for the deadlock in six-party talks and called on it to address pending issues.

The report stressed that the first step toward resolving the ongoing nuclear row should be Washington’s complete renouncement of its hostile policy toward Pyongyang.
