Seoul is actively seeking to establish a medical facility at the Gaesong Industrial Complex in North Korea to provide proper medical service for South Korean workers there.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said Wednesday that workers at the Gaesong complex need to be provided with proper medical care since the joint business venture is being pursued as a national project.

The Ministry plans to ensure South Korean employees there will have access to affordable medical care covered by their health insurance.

However, it said the proposed facility would not immediately be available to North Korean employees of the complex due to health insurance issues. The Ministry said it would hold discussions with the North Korean authorities to seek a solution to the matter.
