A spokesman for Habitat for Humanity International said Wednesday former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will visit Seoul in August to kick off an international event to build houses for the homeless.

Habitat also invited North Korea to join "World Leaders Build" for which Carter has personally invited more than 50 heads of state and government to participate in building Habitat houses in their respective countries during the Aug. 5-11 event.

The spokesman said there is a possibility that North Korea will accept Carter's proposal for the event because he had met the late North Korean leader Kim Il-sung and his son Jong-il. Also, noted was that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il would have finished his Seoul visit by then.
