Unification Minster Chung Dong-young has invited North Korea to attend an August 15th ceremony in Seoul.

Attending a Pyongyang festival marking the fifth anniversary of the 2000 inter-Korean summit, Chung said he hopes civic and government representatives from the North will attend in Seoul the 60th anniversary celebration of Korean liberation from Japanese rule.

He made the invitation at the People’s Palace of Culture in the North's capital.

Meanwhile, former Unification Minister Lim Dong-won said the 70 million people on the Korean Peninsula should join forces in opening another inter-Korean summit.

He said people in both Koreas will exert all efforts to achieve their goal of a second summit in a leap forward for lasting peace and reunification on the peninsula.
