NK Urges Easier Visa Process for Tour

Unification Minister Chung Dong-young says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has urged South Korea to revise its law on inter-Korean exchanges to ease visits to Mount Geumgang.

The main opposition Grand National Party (GNP) on Monday said Chung told GNP Chairwoman Park Geun-hye of Kim's request in a seven-minute phone conversation.

Chung said the request's intent is to simplify complicated immigration procedures for South Korean visitors to the scenic mountain in the North.

Additionally, the minister said the government will seek legislation on sending special envoys to the North, pointing to the lack of proper legal procedures.

Park urged Chung to make public all plans and developments on inter-Korean relations, stressing transparency in handling such issues.
