'NK to Ditch Nukes if US Ends Hostility'

The head of a visiting North Korean delegation says his government will not retain a single nuclear weapon if the United States shows a friendly and amicable attitude towards the North.

Kwon Ho-ung on Wednesday reconfirmed the recent remark of the North's leader Kim Jong-il during inter-Korean ministerial talks in Seoul.

In response, Seoul delegation leader Chung Dong-young urged the resumption of the six-way talks in July to discuss practical measures on resolving the nuclear issue, calling the matter a global as well as an inter-Korean concern.

Chung proposed that the two sides hold general-level military talks next month on removing propaganda broadcasting equipment on the inter-Korean border and preventing accidental clashes on the west coast.

He also called for a new inter-Korean preparatory committee to meet within the month to set up video reunions of separated families in the two Koreas.

Meanwhile, Seoul suggested Red Cross talks in July on locating South Korean prisoners of war still in the North and South Koreans kidnapped by Pyongyang.
