The Korea National Red Cross will convene a meeting Friday to draw up a list of candidates for the August family reunions agreed on at inter-Korean Cabinet-level talks on Thursday.

Three-hundred candidates from registered applicants will be selected in a computerized lottery and will subsequently be whittled down to a final one-hundred after confirming the whereabouts of their relatives living in the North.

The latest family reunion will the 11th since 1985.

Some 120-thousand families in South Korea - most of them elderly and in failing health - are seeking to be reunited with their relatives in the North.

About one-point-two million people fled North Korea during the Korean War and settled in South Korea.
