A freighter carrying five-thousand tons of fertilizer will depart from Yeosu Port, South Jeolla Province on Wednesday for Nampo Port in North Korea. The ship was set to sail on Tuesday, but postponed its departure due to heavy rain.

The fertilizer is the first batch of a supplementary 150-thousand tons South Korea has promised to the North.

Earlier this month, Pyongyang appealed for the aid through its Red Cross office and repeated the request during the 15th inter-Korean ministerial talks last week.

Seoul completed delivery of 200-thousand tons of fertilizer aid on June 19, as agreed on at a high-level inter-Korean meeting at the North’s border city of Gaesong in May.
