The Korean Food and Drug Administration has confirmed that there were no imports of vaccines for such diseases as polio, diphtheria, and tetanus manufactured by any of the suspected five U.S. pharmaceutical firms.
The report by the Korean FDA was made following a recent New York Times report which said the vaccines may have may have been extracted from the bones of cows with the dreaded mad cow disease.
The FDA also said that of 122 vaccine items currently circulating in Korea, there are 8 kinds of polio vaccines and 7 vaccines for diphtheria and tetanus.
The administration officials argued that there are no vaccines whatsoever imported from the five U.S. pharmaceutical firms in question.
The Korean FDA also cited the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as saying those vaccines made from the five U.S. firms are still safe.
